Responsibilities:
The company seeks to fill an open Intellectual Property position, responsible for overseeing execution of the company's IP creation, management and exploitation strategies.
The Quantum IP leader works very closely with the company's General Counsel as a key part of the company's legal team. Responsibilities include working with company executives to coordinate patent prosecution with business and technology strategy, managing an in-house paralegal as well as outside counsel and coordinating with inventors and business professionals throughout the patent process. Additional duties include analysis of third party patent assets, developing commercialization strategies for underutilized technology and IP assets, establishing IP-related policies and procedures for the company's business and engineering groups, negotiating complex transactional arrangements with Quantum's technology development partners and product manufacturers, advising on IP litigation strategies, and handling pre-litigation disputes and inquiries on both patent and trademark matters.
Qualifications:
Strong candidates will have 7+ years of solid experience handling patent-intensive intellectual property matters, and will have considerable personnel and project management experience. A combination of litigation and transactional exposure is a definite plus. Candidates should have exceptional communication skills and be comfortable in a fast-paced, distributed work environment that requires consistent attention to multiple projects and frequent travel. Strong candidates will have both in-house and law firm experience, a passion for hardware and software technologies and strong collaboration skills.
- excellent academic credentials and membership in at least one state bar- admission to USPTO strongly preferred, or substantial, direct experience with patent portfolio management and asset development
- experience with patent and technology licensing and development transactions
- experience identifying patentable subject matter and prosecuting applications
- experience counseling and educating engineers and analyzing third-party assets
- strong understanding of patent litigation process, storage industry and Open Source software issues.
